EMPORIA, Kan. -- Pittsburg State University throwers split up to compete at the Midwest Classic on the campus of Emporia State University and at the Mule Relays on the campus of the University of Central Missouri Friday (Apr. 12).
At Emporia, junior Caleb Calvin won the men's javelin throw competition with a top mark of 233 feet, 2 inches. Amber Walbeck added a fourth-place mark of 137-2 in the women's javelin.
At Warrensburg, Mo., Cole Sample placed second in the men's shot put (58-4.5) and Jack Haukup finished fourth in the men's hammer throw with a personal best mark of 197-7. Abby Lasiter added a fourth-place showing in the women's hammer throw (175-11).
On the track, Erin Hammeke placed third in the women's steeplechase (11:36.02) and Riley Hedges finished third in the men's steeplechase (9:31.67). Ben Kahnk (14:33.25), Travis Sickles (14:36.28) and Tyler Atkins (14:37.32) placed first, second and third in the men's 5,000 meters.
In day two action in California, Blakelee Winn compiled 5400 points in the women's heptathlon and Mattie Flanagan compiled 5318 points in the multi events at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Mason Strader (1:51.07, .065) and Jordan Kilonzo (1:51.07, .068) clocked solid outings in the men's 1,500 meters.
