Gorillas Show Out at PSU Tune-Up Meet Saturday

PITTSBURG -- Pittsburg State University men's and women's outdoor track & field athletes capitalized on one final prep meet before the 2024 MIAA Outdoor Championships with solid outings at the PSU Tune-Up Meet Saturday (Apr. 20) at Carnie Smith Stadium/Prentice Gudgen Track.

In the men's action, Dapriest Hogans (21.05), Dakari Charlton (21.24) and Sam Tudor (21.31) led a one-two-three finish in the 200 meters. Hogans logged the eighth-fastest time in school history with his winning performance.  Woyn Chatman (47.31) and Caden Williams (47.72) also placed first and second, respectively, in the 400 meters. Chatman also logged a personal-best time - the sixth-fastest time in school history.

The Gorillas continued their success on the oval with both the 4x100m relay (Williams, Tudor, Bailey Stone and Chatman) and the 4x400m relay (Dre'shaun Sanders, Hogans, Nate Watson, Charlton) picking up victories. Ben Kahnk also won the 5,000 meters in 14:46.19, while Braylon Thompson won the 100 meters in 10.52.

Caleb Calvin added a victory in the javelin throw (226-0), while Jack Haukup (195-5) finished second in the hammer throw and Cole Sample placed second in the shot put (57-6.25). Grayson Smith added a third-place finish in the pole vault (16-5.25).

In the women's action, Kyla Davis shattered the Pitt State outdoor record in the pole vault with her winning clearance of 14-4.75. Isabelle Peters placed second in the discipline by clearing 13-9. Taylor Nelloms also recorded a PR with a winning mark of 43-0.25 in the triple jump, the third-best mark in school history.

Auna Childress (19-5.25) and Makayla Wilson (19-0.75) placed first and second in the long jump, while Erica Schamel (5-8.75) and Rachel Wilson (5-7.75) finished first and second in the high jump. Olivia Vanderweide secured a PR with her second-place toss of 149-2 in the javelin. Abby Lasiter finished second in the hammer throw (182-5), while Addie Hinterweger placed second in the discus (150-2) and third in the hammer (170-2).

On the track, Diandrenique Gaines scored a PR with a fast time of 23.55 in the 200 meters. Jamiya Morgan placed third in the discipline in 24.17. Madelyn Marquez also was clocked in 14.57 in the 100-meter hurdles.
