MARYVILLE, Mo. — The Pittsburg State University women's outdoor track & field team exited day two action of the 2024 MIAA Outdoor Championships in first place Saturday (May 4) while the Gorilla men sit in second place in the team standings.
The Pitt State women ended Saturday's action at Herschel Neil Track/Bearcat Stadium with 54 points, leading second place Missouri Southern State University by 7.5 points (46.5). Washburn University landed in third place with 41 points.
The Gorillas men finished the day with 48.5 points to trail first place MSSU by 16.5 points (65). WU sits in third place with 42 points.
Kyla Davis and Hannah Gibson captured a pair of MIAA titles to lead the Pitt State women's scoring line. Davis won the pole vault with a clearance of 13 feet, 8.25 inches while Gibson won the 10,000 meters in 35:28.18.
Mattie Flanagan (heptathlon, 5227 pts) and Shelbi Day (pole vault, 12-8.25) also earned All-MIAA honors Saturday with third-place finishes in their respective disciplines.
Other women's point scorers included: Marissa Dick in the steeplechase (4
th, 11:00.58), Siby Yao in the long jump (4
th, 18-9.25), Abby Lasiter in the hammer throw (5
th, 184-0), Payton Phlllips in the heptathlon (7
th, 4657 pts), Erin Hammeke in the steeplechase (7
th, 11:12.75), Addie Hinterweger in the discus throw (7
th, 138-2), and Paige Mullen in the 10,000m (7
th, 36:51.77).
Several Gorillas advanced to finals in prelim race qualifications:Â Blakelee Winn in the 100m hurdles (14.17) and 200m (24.30), Diandrenique Gaines in the 100m (11.41) and 200m (23.44), Taniya Looney in the 100m (11.70) and 200m (23.98), Jamiya Morgan in the 100m (11.92) and 200m (24.18), Madelyn Marquez in the 100m hurdles (14.56), Kinleigh Hall in the 400m (54.97), Mikah Edwards in the 400m (55.15), Kate Dawson in the 800m (2:12.62) and Claire Bruening in the 800m (2:12.88).
Drew Wilhite and Doug Brown set the tone early in the day for the Pitt State men with MIAA runner-up and third-place finishes in the decathlon. Wilhite totaled 6773 points and Brown compiled 6587 points.

th, 23-8.25), Jason Swartzlander in the steeplechase (7

th, 9:26.12), Travis Sickles in the 10,000m (8
th, 31:09.12), Britton Gage in the pole vault (8
th, 15-6.25), Cole Sample in the hammer (8th, 186-9), and Korbin Black in the discus (8
th, 156-10).
Pitt State men advancing on the track to Sunday finals included: Joel Nyatusah (13.65), Daylin Williams (13.74) and Jones (14.18) in the 100m hurdles Woyn Chatman (46.85), Caden Williams (47.21), Sam Tudor (47.63) and Nate Watson (48.29) in the 400m; Dylan Sprecker (1:51.03), Mason Strader (1:51.15) and Jordan Kilonzo (1:52.08) in the 800m; Dapriest Hogans in the 100m (10.29) and 200m (20.77); Xavier Carmichael in the 100m (10.41); and Dakari Charlton in the 100m (10.42).
Sunday's action gets started with the men's javelin at 11:15 a.m.
