EMPORIA, Kan. — The Pittsburg State University men's and women's outdoor track & field teams exited day two action of the 2025 MIAA Outdoor Championships in first place Saturday (May 3).
The Pitt State women ended Saturday's action at Witten Track at Welch Stadium on the Emporia State University campus with 88.5 points, leading second place Washburn University by 46.5 points (42). Missouri Southern State University landed in third place with 38.5 points.
 The Gorillas men finished the day with 55 points to lead second place MSSU by two points (53). The University of Central Missouri sits in third place with 38 points.
Blakelee Winn captured an MIAA title to lead a 27-point Gorillas scoring barrage in the women's long jump. She won the discipline with a best mark of 20 feet, 7.25 inches.
Makayla Watson (19-9) and
Makayla Pavelka (19-4.75) also earned All-MIAA honors, placing second and third, respectively. Booklyn Baker also finished sixth overall (18-10.75).
The trio of
Isabelle Peters (13-8.5),
Kyla Davis (13-8.5) and Quincy Turner (12-8.75) added 17 points in the pole vault, placing second, fourth and fifth individually.
The Gorillas opened the day with
Payton Phillips finishing as the MIAA runner-up in the heptathlon with a personal-best 4,869 points.
Maggie Salsbury placed fourth overall in the multi events (4,672 points).
Pitt State capped the second day of competition with an emphatic 24-point showing in the 10,000 meters as
Paige Mullen claimed the league crown in 34 minutes, 27.54 seconds and
Hannah Gibson (35:08.90) and
Lorna Rae Pierce (35-43.37) followed in second and third place in the race.
Marissa Dick garnered All-MIAA honors by placing third in the steeplechase in 10:45.33.
Kelci Locke (144-1) and
Addie Hinterweger (142-2) placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in the discus throw.
Several Gorillas advanced to finals in prelim race qualifications:Â Winn (13.59) and
Kayvon Nubine (13.79) in the 100-meter hurdles
Diandrenique Gaines in the 100m (11.48) and 200m (23.06);
Jamiya Morgan in the 100m (11.61) and the 200m (23.69);
Kinleigh Hall in the 400m (56.12); and
Kate Strader (2:10.45) and
Claire Bruening (2:13.08) in the 800m.
Chase Poague opened the day for the Pitt State men with a fourth-place showing in the decathlon (6,390 points).
The Gorillas secured a pair of individual MIAA crowns:Â
Jack Haukap in the hammer throw (219-11) and
Matthew Oglesby in the 10,000m (29:54.95).
Other men's point scorers included:
Brennan Boord in the hammer throw (3rd, 190-7) and discus (4th, 159-8);
Johnetheon Lockett in the long jump (4th, 23-8.25);
Cole Sample in the hammer throw (181-7);
Braden Zaner (5th, 30:22.87) and
Nathan Hinrichs (6th, 30:25.04) in the 10,000m; and
Drake Stapleton in the discus (7th, 154-1).

Dylan Sprecker (1:53.06) in the 800m.
