PUEBLO, Colo. – The Pittsburg State University women's outdoor track & field team placed third overall at the 2025 NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships Saturday (May 24) at the CSU-Pueblo Thunderbowl.
The Gorillas, who were seeking back-to-back outdoor national crowns, led in the team standings through 19 of 21 events Saturday, but Adams State University and Grand Valley State University secured key points in the 5,000 meters to surge past Pitt State.
Grand Valley State edged Adams State, 60 to 59, in the final standings with the Gorillas coming in third.
Junior
Isabelle Peters and senior
Kyla Davis set the tone early in the day Saturday, sparking the Gorillas with 14 points in the pole vault. Peters shattered the Pitt State record with her second place clearance of 14 feet, 4 inches, while Davis finished in third place with a season-best mark of 14-0.
Redshirt senior
Kate Strader added a third-place All-America finish in the 1,500 meters, crossing the finish line in 4 minutes, 30.68 seconds.
The 4x100m relay of
Kinleigh Hall,
Diandrenique Gaines,
Jamiya Morgan and
Blakelee Winn contributed three points with a six-place showing of 45.05 seconds in their discipline. Gaines added a sixth-place All-America effort in the 100 meters (11.36), before placing ninth in the finals of the 200 meters (23.38).
Junior
Shelby Sogaard placed 20
th overall in the javelin throw (132-11) early in the day and junior
Makayla Pavelka finished 16
th overall in the triple jump (40-5). Sophomore
Paige Mullen added a 14
th place showing in the 5,000 meters (17:23.38).
The Gorillas recorded the program's fourth straight top 10 outdoor national finish as well as Pitt State's fifth all-time top five national outdoor showing.
