EMPORIA, Kan. — The Pittsburg State University women's outdoor track & field team shattered the all-time scoring total in MIAA history in cruising to the 2025 MIAA Outdoor Championship Sunday (May 4) at Witten Track/Welch Stadium on the Emporia State University campus.
The Gorillas claimed their eighth MIAA Outdoor Championship in the last 10 seasons by compiling 271.5 points and dominating the competition from start to finish in the three-day meet. Washburn University finished in a distant second place, 154.5 points behind Pitt State with 117 points.

The Gorillas claimed eight individual event victories on Sunday alone to take firm control of the meet.
Rachel Wilson broke her own school record mark in winning the high jump with a clearance of 6 feet, 0.75 inches.
Diandrenique Gaines swept sprint titles in the 100 meters (11.42) and the 200 meters (23.12) and
Kayvon Nubine claimed the MIAA title in the 100-meter hurdles (13.72). Nubine and Gaines also teamed with
Jamiya Morgan and Blakelee to secure victory in the 4x100m relay (44.68).
Kate Strader also swept middle distance titles in the 800 meters (2:08.44) and the 1,500 meters (4:22.43), while
Paige Mullen completed the sweep of the distance races Sunday by winning the 5,000 meters (16:56.44) a day after capturing the 10,000 meters crown.
The Gorillas added 10 more All-MIAA performances Sunday:Â
Kinley Smith (2nd, 38-7.75) and
Makayla Pavelka (3rd, 38-7.75) in the triple jump; Hayley Hadley in the high jump (2nd, 5-8.75); Mullen (2nd, 4:25.24) and
Claire Bruening (4:25.66) in the 1,500 meters; Winn in the 100m hurdles (2nd, 13.96); Morgan in the 100 meters (3rd, 11.82) and the 200 meters (2nd, 23.51); Bruening in the 800 meters (3rd, 2:08.88); and
Hannah Gibson in the 5,000 meters (3rd, 17:09.79).
Mullen received the MIAA High Point Scorer Award after compiling 28 points in the meet thanks to her MIAA titles in the 5,000m and 10,00m and her runner-up finish in the 1,500m.
The Pitt State women completed the sweep of MIAA crowns for the 2024-25 academic year after claiming MIAA Championships in cross country and indoor track & field.
