PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University volleyball team pound out 48 kills and posted a .402 attack percentage in a convincing three-set victory over Newman University Tuesday (Oct. 7).

The Gorillas rolled past the Jets 25-13, 25-13, 25-10 in the match, needing just 66 minutes to improve to 8-7 overall and 2-3 in MIAA play. Newman dropped 2-14 (0-5 MIAA) while dropping its 10th straight match.

Maddi LaPointe,
Vix Vilott and
Kassidy Nixon combined for 31 kills in the match. LaPointe finished with a match high 12 kills and added five block assists, while Vilott contributed 10 kills on just 16 attempts. Nixon posted nine kills and 10 digs, while
Josie McCroskey chipped in with a match-high 17 digs.
Jesa Wallace made 40 assists, six digs and a pair of service aces.
The .402 team attacking percentage is the highest attacking percentage from the Gorillas since a three-set victory over East Central (Sept. 5, 2014) where they finished with the match at .435.

Newman got a team-leading five kills from Sky Miller.

The Gorillas earned the win on Pitt State's annual Pink Night in front of 198 fans at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court. The Gorillas will return to action to host No. 24 Central Missouri Friday (Oct. 10) at 5 p.m. (CDT).
