Three Times As Nice!!

Gorillas Capture Third Straight Indoor National Championship

INDIANAPOLIS — The Pittsburg State University men's track & field team claimed its third straight NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championship in dominant fashion Saturday (Mar. 15) at the Fall Creek Pavilion at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

The Gorillas shot into the lead in the team standings early in the day Saturday and rode that momentum to victory.

Pitt State compiled 76 points to claim the program's fourth overall NCAA Indoor National Championship (2018, 2023, 2024, 2025). Grand Valley State University finished as the national runner-up with 61.5 points and Colorado School of Mines placed a distant third with 36 points.

With the title, the Gorillas have won the last six D2 track & field championships. After placing third at the 2022 NCAA-II Indoor Nationals, Pitt State claimed the 2022 Outdoor Nationals crown and swept both indoor and outdoor honors in 2023 and 2024. The Gorillas claimed the program's first indoor national crown in 2018 at the Robert W. Plaster Center in Pittsburg.

Pitt State also becomes the first D2 program to record three consecutive indoor national championships since St. Augustine's College won four straight between 2006 and 2009.

On Championship Saturday, the Gorillas secured two individual event national titles to help fuel the point-scoring frenzy: Daylin Williams in the 60-meter hurdles (7.71) and the 4x400m relay of Dapriest Hogans, Woyn Chatman, Caden Williams and Nate Watson (3:07.18). The relay etched its name into the record book by posting the fastest time in D2 history.

Tre Betts started the day with a national runner-up performance in the triple jump (50-5.5) and Williams followed close behind with his second straight national title in the 60m hurdles.

Mason Strader (4:01.77) and Dylan Sprecker (4:04.61) each garnered All-America accolades by placing fourth and sixth, respectively, in the mile run and Cole Sample uncorked a personal-best throw of 59 feet, 8.25 inches for a fifth-place All-America outing in the shot put.

Hogans and Dakari Charlton added 12 more points to the Pitt State tally in the 200 meters. Hogans finished as the national runner-up in 20.64 and Charlton placed fifth in 21.04.

Watson added an eighth-place All-America finish in the 400 meters.

Pitt State has finished in the top five teams at the NCAA-II Indoor National Championships in six of the last seven seasons (2018, Champs; 2021, 5th; 2022, 3rd; 2023, Champs; 2024, Champs; 2025, Champs) - the 2020 national meet was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Pitt State women also captured the 2025 NCAA Division II Indoor National Championship. Pitt State becomes the first school to sweep both men's and women's indoor track & field titles in the same season since St. Augustine's did so in 2007.
