Pitt State Women Cruise to Another Record Setting MIAA Title

Gorillas Secure Eighth MIAA Indoor Title in Last Nine Years

MARYVILLE, Mo. — The Pittsburg State University women's indoor track & field team enjoyed a record setting day in breezing to the 2025 MIAA Indoor Championship Sunday (Mar. 2) at Hughes Fieldhouse on the Northwest Missouri State University campus.

Pitt State finished the three-day meet with an MIAA record 222 points, besting second-place Northwest Missouri by 100 points. The Bearcats finished the meet with 112 points. Washburn University posted 103.5 points to finish in third place.

Pitt State posted the highest scoring total in MIAA Indoor Championships history for a second straight year, topping the previous high point total of 221 points set by the Gorillas at the 2024 MIAA Indoor Championships at Topeka.
 
The Gorillas secured five individual MIAA crowns on the day:  Kate Strader in the mile run (4:50.85); Kayvon Nubine in the 60-meter hurdles (8.39); Diandrenique Gaines in the 200 meters (23.86); Paige Mullen in the 3,000 meters (9:44.15); and Auna Childress in the triple jump (42-2.25).
 
Mullen earned the MIAA High Point Award by scoring 28 points in the meet. Strader broke her own school record with her winning time in the mile.
 
The Gorillas also registered four MIAA runner-up performances Sunday:  Mullen in the mile (4:54.08); Isabelle Peters in the 60mH (8.45); Gaines in the 60m (7.41); and the 4x400m relay of Maddie O'Neill, Gaines, Kinleigh Hall and Jamiya Morgan (3:44.89).

Other Sunday point scorers included:  Morgan, 60m (eighth, 7.73), 200m (fourth 24.05); Hall, 400m (sixth, 56.14); Olivia Lowrey, 400m (eighth, 57.45); Claire Bruening, 800m (third, 2:12.12); Marissa Dick, 3,000m (sixth, 9:54.94); Lily Brown, triple jump (third, 39-4); Makayla Pavelka, triple jump (fourth, 39-2.25); Kinley Smith, triple jump (sixth, 38-2.75); and Abby Lasiter, shot put (eighth, 44-9.5).

The Gorillas won their fourth straight title and eighth MIAA indoor crown in the last nine years. Pitt State had won four indoor titles in a row between 2017 and 2020 before UCM claimed the 2021 crown.
