PITTSBURG - The Pittsburg State University volleyball team picked up a three-set victory to begin the Pitt State Classic on Thursday (Sept. 11) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
Pitt State (4-1) was led by
Maliyah Johnson with 13 kills (.478), with the junior hitter adding in three blocks.
Jesa Wallace (25) and
Abby Carr (22) split the setting duties for the Gorillas.
Vix Vilott claimed a team-high 18 digs while
Anna Dean and
Don'Yah Cosie each tallied four total blocks.
In set one, the Gorillas battled back from a 24-17 deficit to win the opening set, 28-26. Set two was a 25-20 decision, followed by a 25-13 final set.
Up next for the Gorillas on Friday (Sept. 12) will be Southern Nazarene at 12:30 p.m. (CDT) before finishing the Pitt State Classic at 7:00 p.m. against No. 9 Southwest Minnesota State at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
