PITTSBURG - The Pittsburg State University volleyball team split the final day of the Pitt State Classic on Friday (Sept. 12) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
In game one, a 3-0 sweep against Southern Nazarene (2-5). The Gorillas (5-2) claimed set scores of 25-14, 25-13, 25-23.
Kassidy Nixon led the team with 12 kills (.440) and chipped in with 10 digs for a double-double performance.
Jesa Wallace led the team with 23 assists, while
Don'Yah Cosie and
Anna Dean each finished with two total blocks.
Josie McCroskey led the way with 12 digs with Nixon and
Vix Vilott finishing with 10 each.
Game two would go the distance with the No. 9 Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State (7-0) picking up a hard earned win. Set scores were 25-20, 20-25, 18-25, 25-23, 15-12. Vilott (18), Nixon (13),
Maliyah Johnson (12) and Dean (10) finished with double digit kills against SMSU.
Abby Carr (29) and Wallace (27) split the setting duties while McCroskey claimed a match-high 36 digs. Dean and Cosie each finished with five total blocks to lead the Gorillas.
Up next for the Gorillas will be the Bettye Wallace Invitational hosted by Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Ark. at the Duke Wells Center. Pitt State will begin the tournament against Quincy on Friday (Sept. 19) at 11:00 a.m. (CDT).
