Former Gorilla Tinch Claims World Hurdles Championship

TOKYO – Former Pittsburg State University track & field star Cordell Tinch capped an incredible racing season by capturing the gold medal at the 2025 World Championships in the men's 110-meter hurdles Tuesday (Sept. 16).

Tinch, who placed second at the U.S. Championships in August, claimed the world championship with a winning time of 12.99 seconds in the final. Orlando Bennett (13.08) and Tyler Mason (13.12) of Jamaica secured silver and bronze medal finishes.

The Milwaukee, Wis., native made his global championships debut this summer after missing the 2024 Olympic team by one spot with a fourth-place finish at the U.S. Championships.

Tinch, who joined the Gorillas for the 2023 indoor and outdoor campaigns, captured five NCAA Division II National Championships that year, including the 60-meter hurdles indoors and the 110-meter hurdles outdoors. He was selected the 2023 NCAA-II National Track Athlete of the Year indoors and the 2023 NCAA-II National Field Athlete of the Year outdoors, while also posting national championship performances in the high jump and long jump.

Tinch helped the Gorillas sweep indoor and outdoor team national championships in 2023. The Pitt State men have won four straight outdoor team titles (2022, 2023, 2024, 2025) and three consecutive indoor team titles (2023, 2024, 2025).
