Pitt State Women Tabbed Fifth/Sixth in MIAA Polls

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Pittsburg State University women's basketball team was picked fifth in the 2026-27 MIAA Preseason Media Poll and sixth in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll released today (Oct. 6).

The Gorillas received 281 points from the media to earn the No. 5 ranking in their poll. Central Missouri garnered 16 first-place votes and 372 points to secure the top spot, while Fort Hays State gained 13 first-place votes and 355 points to land at No. 2. Missouri Southern was third in the poll with 325 points and Washburn was fourth with one first-place vote and 298 points.

In the coaches poll, UCM drew the No. 1 ranking with 10 first-place votes and 163 points. FHSU (1 first-place vote, 147 pts), MSSU (1 first-place vote, 143 pts), Northwest Missouri (120 pts) and WU (1 first-place vote, 113 pts) rounded out the top five positions. Pitt State came it at No. 6 with 108 points.

Head coach Amanda Davied returns four starters and eight letterwinners from a 2025-26 team that posted an 18-11 record (11-8 MIAA) a year ago.

Senior guard Ja'Miya Brown earned honorable mention All-MIAA honors last year by averaging 12.2 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. Sophomore center Kaycee McCumber contributed 9.9 points and 8.6 rebounds a game during her rookie campaign. Sophomore guard Marin Adams was an honorable mention All-MIAA pick, averaging a team-leading 12.2 points, but she will miss the 2025-26 season due to an offseason injury.

Davied has a 166-73 career record entering her ninth season leading her alma mater.
 
Pitt State will open the 2026-27 season on Nov. 9 with a key NCAA Central Region road game against Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
