Leo Chauchard compiled 3,082 points through four events in the heptathlon Friday (Feb. 27) to take the day-one lead in the multi-events at the 2026 MIAA Indoor Championships at the Robert W. Plaster Center.
Chauchard led the field of nine competitors in the 60 meters and the shot put competitions to build a 59-point lead over second-place Luke Grace from Emporia State University. Chauchard posted a fast time of 6.94 seconds in the 60m and he tossed the shot put 45 feet, 6.75 inches, both season best marks. He also finished third in the high jump (6-2) and fourth in the long jump (22-2.5).
Grace, who totaled 3,023 points Friday, topped the field in the high jump (6-8) and placed second in the long jump (22-9.25).
Day two action of the heptathlon will begin at 11:30 a.m. (CST) Saturday with the 60-meter hurdles and wrap up shortly after 2:30 p.m. with the conclusion of the 1,000 meters race. The full 2026 MIAA Indoor Championships will get underway Saturday at 2 p.m. with the men's high jump and prelims in the men's 60-meter hurdles.
