PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University men's and women's indoor track & field teams both finished day two action of the 2026 MIAA Indoor Championships in first place in their respective team standings Saturday (Feb. 28) at the Robert W. Plaster Center on the PSU campus.

The Pitt State men have compiled 51.5 points after six scored events to lead second place Missouri Southern State University (45) by 6.5 points. Washburn University sits in third place with 39.5 points.

The Pitt State women own a 64-point advantage over their nearest competitor after six scored events. The Gorillas have 98 points, followed by Missouri Southern (34) and Washburn (33).

Championship Sunday gets under way at Noon with team champions crowned at approximately 5:15 p.m.

In Saturday's action,
Leo Chauchard opened the day in style in the men's heptathlon by capturing the MIAA crown in the multi events with a personal best 5,347 points.
The Gorillas followed up Chauchard's morning performance with a 12-point showing in the weight throw.
Jack Haukap posted an MIAA runner-up finish with a PR and school record breaking toss of 67 feet 11 inches, while
Drake Stapleton placed fifth overall (66-4).
The men added an MIAA championship by the distance medley relay as
Jordan Kilonzo,
Kevar Williams,
Eli Gilmore and
Dylan Sprecker crossed the finish line in a fast time of 9 minutes, 46.49 seconds.
The Gorillas also got a third and sixth place finish in the long hump from Isaiah Western (23-10.5) and
Johnetheon Lockett (23-6.75) and
Xavier Byers (6-11.75) and
Victor Morfin (6-9.5) finished second and seventh, respectively, in the high jump.

The women scored points in clusters Saturday, generating 16.5 points in the high jump, 18 points in the long jump, 20 points in the 5,000m and 27.5 points in the pole vault.
Cannon Booker (2
nd, 14-0.5),
Breanne Peters (T3rd, 13-4.75) and
Quincey Turner (5
th, 13-0.75) turned in big outings in the pole vault.
Hannah Gibson placed 3
rd (16:41.18) and
Lorna Rae Pierce finished 5
th (17:13.43) in the 5,000m; and
Brooklyn Baker placed 3
rd (19-11) and
Makayla Pavelka finished 7
th (18-11.25) in the long jump. In the high jump,
Rachel Wilson placed 4
th (5-5.75) and
Kyra Heald finished 7
th (5-5.75). Abby Lasister also added a 6
th place finish in the weight throw (60-11).
The men's qualifying races featured a pair of stellar performances by the Gorillas.
Griouard Weddington tied the fastest time in D2 history in the 60 meters with a fast time of 6.54 seconds.
Caden Williams also shattered the Pitt State record in the 400 meters with his lightning quick time of 46.17.
Additionally,
Tyrone Jackson (7.83),
Na'Koriyon James (7.89) and
Albert House (7.99) advanced to the finals of the 60-meter hurdles;
Ilias Garcia (6.61),
Kemarri Stewart (6.73) and
Braylon Thompson (6.74) advanced to the finals of the 60 meters. Garcia entered the day with the fastest time in Division II this season (6.62) and he clocked a PR with his fast time.
Nate Watson (46.69),
Logan Davis (47.15) and
Amar Williams (47.55) also qualified in the 400 meters, while Williams Seitz (1:10.74) and Gilmore (1:11.19) advanced in the 600-yard run. Kilonzo qualified in the 800 meters (1:53.50); and Weddington (21.02), Thompson (21.19) and Stewart (21.57) advanced in the 200 meters.
In women's qualifying races,
Zyra Shivers (8.37),
Kayvon Nubine (8.46) and
McKinlee Walker (8.61) advanced in the 60m hurdles;
Mikah Edwards (55.46),
Kinleigh Hall (55.63) and
Nikole Cozort qualified in the 400m;
Jakayla Morgan (1:23.25) and
Piper Hula (1:23.36) advanced in the 600-yard run;
Kelsey Bruening qualified in the 800m (2:14.97); and
Isabel Abdouch advanced in the 200m (24.25).
