Pitt State Men Claim 10th MIAA Indoor Title in Last 13 Years

Gorillas Score Highest Point Total in MIAA Indoor Meet History (Again)

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University men's indoor track & field team entered Championship Sunday with a slight lead and the Gorillas slammed the door on the competition early in the day to secure the 2026 MIAA Indoor Championships Sunday (Mar. 1) at the Robert W. Plaster Center on the PSU campus.
 
The Gorillas posted 225 points – the highest point total in MIAA Indoor Championships history – to beat MIAA runner-up Northwest Missouri by 110 points. The Bearcats finished the meet with 115 points, while third-place Missouri Southern State University totaled 88.5 points.
 
Pitt State established a new point total record for a fourth straight year after compiling 208.5 points at the 2023 MIAA Indoor Championships in Pittsburg; 212 points at the 2024 MIAA Indoor Championships at Topeka; and a record-breaking 218.5 points at the 2025 MIAA Indoor Championships at Maryville, Mo., last year.

The Gorillas captured eight MIAA titles on the day:  Grayson Smith in the pole vault (17-2.25); Dylan Sprecker in the mile (4:10.01) & the 3,000 meters (8:18.39); Ilias Garcia in the 60 meters (6.59); Caden Williams in the 400 meters (46.24); William Seitz in the 600-yard run (1:09.97) Griouard Weddington in the 200 meters (21.04); and the 4x400m relay of Amar Williams, Logan Davis, Caden Davis and Nate Watson (3:07.53).

Sprecker took home MIAA High Point Award honors from the meet by securing 22.5 points. In addition to his two individual event wins Sunday, he also helped Pitt State's distance medley relay to a win Saturday evening.

The Gorillas also registered five MIAA runner-up performances Sunday:  Drake Stapleton in the shot put (60-0); Braylon Brown in the pole vault (17-2.25); Johnetheon Lockett in the triple jump (49-7.25); Watson in the 400m (46.29); and Braylon Thompson in the 200m (21.15).

Other Sunday point scorers included:  Weddington, 60m (3rd, 6.66); Tyrone Jackson, 60m hurdles (3rd, 7.85); Logan, 400m (3rd, 46.55); Kemarri Stewart, 60m (4th, 6.70) & 200m (5th, 21.50); Jordan Kilonzo, 800m (4th, 1:51.91); Antwan Dawson, triple jump (5th, 48-8.25); Eli Gilmore, 600-yard run (5th, 1:10.86); Britton Gage, pole vault (T6th, 16-6.5); Thompson, 60m (6th, 6.72); Amar Williams, 400m (6th, 47.58); Na'Koriyon James, 60m hurdles (7th, 8.07); TyQuarious Ivy, triple jump (7th, 47-7.25); Albert House, 60m hurdles (8th, 16.39).
 
The Gorillas won their sixth straight MIAA indoor crown and the program's 10th MIAA indoor title in the last 13 years (2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026). Overall, this marked Pitt State's 12th MIAA Indoor Championship since joining the conference in 1990.
