BOLIVAR, Mo. -- Several members of both the Pittsburg State University men's and women's track & field teams recorded NCAA Division II national qualifying marks in competition Saturday (Mar. 31).
The Gorillas picked up a host of qualifying marks at the SBU Bearcat Invitational. In the men's action at Bolivar, Caleb Calvin unleashed the third-best throw in school history in the javelin. His mark of 239 feet, 8 inches also currently ranks No. 2 in NCAA Division II this season. Additionally, Christian Carter picked up a PQ mark in the long jump (24-4.5), Konner Swenson secured a PQ in the discus throw (168-8) and Mason Reed also PQ'd in the javelin (198-5). Braden Zaner also clocked a winning time of 3:59.51 in the 1,500 meters.
Nakiya Marshall led the Pitt State women at SBU with PQ's in the triple jump (40-9.5) and the 100m hurdles (14.12). Rylee Garrett (144-7), Madison Reese (143-11), Shelby Sogaard (140-1) and Bailey Monroe (139-1) also secured PQ marks in the javelin. Additionally, Erin Hammeke recorded a time of 11:42.74 in the 3,000m steeplechase and Claire Bruening clocked a time of 4:40.40 in the 1,500m.
At San Marcos, Texas, Erica Schamel earned a PQ mark with her clearance of 5-7.25 in the women's high jump. At the Texas Relays, Cordell Tinch earned a PQ mark in the men's long jump (24-7.25), while the 4x200m relay of Bailey Stone, Xavier Carmichael, Braylen Brewer and A.J. Evans clocked a fast time of 1:23.70 in their race.
