Five Gorillas Qualify for 2024 USATF Olympic Trials

Former Gorillas Rollins, Thompson, Tinch Also Set to Compete

PITTSBURG — Five current Pittsburg State University track & field athletes and three former Gorillas have qualified to compete in the 2024 USA Track & Field Olympic Trials.

The Olympic Trials begin Friday, June 21, and run through Sunday, June 30, at Eugene, Ore., at historic Hayward Field.

Tre Betts (triple jump, 52-5.5), Auna Childress (triple jump, 43-6), Kyla Davis (pole vault, 14-5.25), Hunter Jones (decathlon, 7898 pts.) and Daylin Williams (110m hurdles, 13.68) all qualified for the trials, along with former Pitt State athletes Louis Rollins (13.65) and Cordell Tinch (13.04) in the 110m hurdles and Brett Thompson (248-4) in the javelin.

Betts, Childress, Jones and Williams all captured national titles in their respective disciplines at the 2024 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in May at Emporia, Kan. Davis finished as the D2 national runner-up.

Last year, Tinch finished second in the 110m hurdles at the 2023 USATF Championships and qualified for the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest where he reached the semifinals of the discipline. He has the third-fastest time entering the Trials this year.

Childress, Jones and Thompson all will compete on the opening day of the Trials Friday (June 21).
