2025 NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships Open Thursday

PUEBLO, Colo. – The Pittsburg State University men's and women's outdoor track & field teams will open competition in the 2025 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships Thursday (May 22). The meet, which is being hosted by Colorado State University-Pueblo, runs Thursday through Saturday (May 24).

The Pitt State men are the three-time defending NCAA Division II national champions from the 2022, 2023 and 2024 outdoor seasons. The Gorillas are ranked No. 1 in the most recent USTFCCCA/NCAA Division II National Track & Field Ratings Index (TFRI). The Pitt State women also captured the 2024 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Emporia, Kan., last year. The Gorillas are ranked No. 2 in the women's D2 TFRI.

Forty-two Pitt State athletes – 23 men and 19 women – qualified for the national championships.

Several Gorillas will be in action on day one Thursday at the CSU-Pueblo Thunderbowl.
 
Redshirt senior Hunter Jones will compete in the men's decathlon at 11:30 a.m. (CDT). Jones 3rd in the multi events with 7,527 points. Redshirt junior Blakelee Winn will compete in the women's heptathlon at Noon and the women's long jump at 3:30 p.m. Winn enters the national meet ranked No. 2 in the heptathlon (5,780 pts) and No. 5 in the long jump (20-9.75). She also will run in the prelims of the women's 4x100m Relay at 5:40 p.m. along with teammates Kayvon Nubine, Diandrenique Gaines and Jamiya Morgan. The relay is seeded No. 5 overall (44.65). Gaines also will compete in the prelims of the women's 100m at 7:10 p.m. She is ranked eighth in 100m (11.33).
 
Junior Abby Lasiter will compete in the women's hammer throw (16th, 187-6) at 1:30 p.m., while junior Jack Haukap will battle in the men's hammer throw (2nd, 220-1) at 4:30 p.m.
Freshman Brooklyn Baker (19th, 20-2.25) and redshirt freshman Makayla Watson (22nd, 19-10.75) will compete, along with Winn, in the women's long jump at 3:30 p.m.

The men's 4x100m Relay of Victor Smith, Dapriest Hogans, Dakari Charlton and Braylon Thompson will race in the prelims at 5:55 p.m. The quartet sports the nation's fastest time at 39.49. Hogans (5th, 10:13) also will race in the prelims of the men's 100m at 7:25 p.m.
Redshirt seniors Kate Strader (4th, 4:19.24) and Claire Bruening (21st, 4:25.66) will run in the prelims of the women's 1,500m at 6:10 p.m., while graduate Mason Strader (2nd, 3:39.34) and redshirt sophomore Dylan Sprecker (11th, 3:42.51) will compete in the prelims of the men's 1,500m at 6:25 p.m.
Sophomore Nate Watson will race in the prelims of the men's 400m (7th, 46.16) at 6:55 p.m. Sophomores Paige Mullen (8th, 34:22.37) and Hannah Gibson (12th, 34:33.04) will run in the women's 10,000m at 9:10 p.m., while graduate Matthew Oglesby (15th, 29:05.65) will race in the men's 10,000m at 9:50 p.m.
